Registering as an Exporter
When considering business expansion, you may decide that your business is ready to penetrate international markets. This is not a straightforward process and it’s important that you are aware of all the implications, both from a legal and tax perspective.
All importers and exporters in South Africa are required to register with the South African Revenue Services (SARS). Import and Export forms can be downloaded from the SARS website and once completed you can take them to the nearest SARS Customs & Excise branch office.
This is an area where you will have to do a lot of research and may want to get the advice of a legal expert in this field. You can also speak to fellow business owners who export their products, to get their experiences.
The Department of Trade and Industry’s website contains information on various aspects of exporting, opportunities for export to foreign countries and other relevant issues. Also, visit the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa's (ITAC) website for information on both import and export rules and regulations.
